The Federal Government Will No Longer be Issuing Paper Checks
To protect you against rising mail theft and financial fraud, the Federal Government will stop sending paper checks except in limited cases. Already getting your federal benefit payment(s) to a bank or credit union account or Direct Express® Debit Mastercard®? You do NOT need to take any further action.
After September 30, 2025, Federal benefit payments are required to be made electronically – through direct deposit to a bank or credit union account or to the Direct Express® Debit Mastercard® card. Go to: https://godirect.gov/gpw for instructions on how to enroll online, by phone or by mail.
